This Mindset is Key To Your Author Journey
New Year, Same Dream: Write, Learn, Repeat.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re trying to do too much, too fast.
Writing - and publishing - aren’t a quick jump to success; it’s a long-distance run.
Every word, every punctuation you add, every page, and every book brings you one step closer to your goal.
Instead of chasing overnight results, focus on measured progress, patience, and persistence.
Here are some actionable Do’s and Don’ts to guide your journey:
✅ Do’s:
Prioritize quality over quantity: publish a properly edited manuscript with a professional-looking cover.
First impressions matter. It’s important to balance meaningful progress with ‘fight-against-overthinking’. Keep moving forward.
Learn from others: read blurbs of successful books in your genre and craft yours with intention.
Embrace your author journey: your first book might not make you rich, but it will teach you valuable lessons.
Keep writing: every story you write sharpens your skills and builds your portfolio.
❌ Don’ts:
Don’t cut corners: avoid publishing / rushing your work (with unedited or poor-quality flow) with shabby covers. Spend enough time crafting a good cover. Conceptualize as much as you can instead of throwing in a random design or colour pattern for your book’s cover.
Don’t rush the process: progress at your own pace; the race is against your own goals, not someone else’s timeline.
Don’t let setbacks stop you: every author faces challenges. Keep writing through them.
Remember: every page you write is a brick in your author legacy, a fort that you are constructing - brick by brick.
Keep showing up.
Keep writing.
P.S. I am in the middle of writing my next book. It’s yet to be titled (I do have a title idea that I am currently researching about) and it is about adopting mini mental frameworks that helps us in continuously developing ourselves. My first in the non-fiction (self-help) genre. I like how it is shaping up. Will keep you informed about it first when I release it this year.
Happy new year 2025!
